Jennifer L. King is a registered United States patent attorney and is experienced in worldwide patent portfolio management in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device fields. Jenny became a patent attorney because she enjoys applying her understanding of diverse technologies to assisting clients to succeed.
Jenny has over twenty years of legal experience in a wide range of intellectual property matters. Practicing with law firms ranging from AmLaw100 general practice firms to intellectual property boutiques, Jenny has counseled clients ranging from individual inventors to Fortune 500 corporations. In addition to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, Jenny also has broad experience with managing worldwide patent portfolios, landscape analyses, patentability analyses, freedom-to-operate analyses, opinion drafting, and negotiating and drafting patent licenses and related agreements.
Jenny has also served as Senior Director, Assistant General Counsel at a long-standing biotechnology company, where she focused on genetic engineering. Jenny advised stakeholders from the CEO and CFO through scientific researchers and marketing professionals regarding patents, trademarks, copyrights, intellectual property licensing, sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements, and other legal matters. Jenny assisted in directing Research and Development planning and activities, with a view toward patentability, freedom-to-operate, scientific feasibility, market acceptance, and return on investment.
Jenny also has broad experience in patent adversarial proceedings. For example, Jenny was second chair on a team that successfully defended the validity and enforceability of certain key patent claims at trial before a U.S. District Court. As another example, Jenny was part of a team that negotiated a favorable settlement of an interference proceeding. Jenny also has experience in appellate litigation, litigation before the International Trade Commission, and alternative dispute resolution. Jenny enjoys translating her litigation experience into drafting and prosecuting robust patent applications, drafting durable opinions, negotiating and drafting favorable licenses, and providing meaningful client counseling.
In addition to having earned a B.S. in Biology, Jenny studied and worked in laboratories for two academic years in a Ph.D. program, with emphasis on genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, transgenics, immunology, and virology.
Jenny is conversant in Lean/Six Sigma implementation, and she actively practices and promotes a culture of and drive towards continuous improvement.
